We’re thrilled to say that the Carnegie winning author Jennifer Donnelly will be visiting the UK for a brief time ahead of the publication of her new book THESE SHALLOW GRAVES. We are delighted to announce we will be hosting a fantastic event entitled REVOLUTIONARY WOMEN at our brand new Marylebone offices in London where Jennifer will be joined by the marvellous Julie Mayhew, whose new book THE BIG LIE has received rave reviews across the board. Their discussion will be chaired by Anna James of The Bookseller and Elle magazine.

From 1890s Gilded Age New York to an alternative contemporary Britain ruled by Nazis, both Josephine Montfort and Jessika Keller have the weight of society’s expectation on their shoulders. Josephine’s life is planned out for her – a lady’s education, balls and society galas and when the time comes a marriage to an eligible gentleman of appropriate class. But Josephine wants more excitement in her life – she dreams of becoming a reporter like her heroine Nellie Bly. But when her father is found dead in his study, supposedly having shot himself by accident when cleaning his pistol, life becomes more exciting than even Jo wanted. Unconvinced he would have made such an error, Jo sets about unravelling the mystery with the help of the handsome young reporter Eddie Gallagher. But will she want to know the truth she uncovers?

In a modern day alternative Britain where Nazis won the war, Jessika Keller has always been a good girl – ice skating lessons at dawn, perfect grades at school and ideal behaviour in her “Bund Deutscher Mädel”, the female Hitler Youth movement. One day she too will marry and produce healthy strong children, and perform her duties as a good German wife. But when rebellious Clementine moves in next door, Jess begins to question everything she’s accepted about the country’s rulers. But Jess’ new thoughts are dangerous – as are her developing feelings for Clem. She can’t keep both the perfect life and Clem, but how can she choose between them?

Both books look at what it means to be “good” as a woman, across two very different worlds…

Join us as we unravel all this and more! Copies of THESE SHALLOW GRAVES will be available to buy exclusively at the event ahead of official UK publication.
