All our titles are available as ebooks simultaneously with the printed book, to all retailers and libraries, but that is not innovation.
At Hot Key, we are having fun breaking down the traditional barriers between authors and readers, making publishing accessible and building an audience for our authors. We like to use existing platforms to show off the stories behind the stories that our talented writers tell.
We’ve created a number of innovative products: two stand alone interactive ebooks and one “add on” interactive ebook, all exclusively for the iBookstore built with iBooksAuthor. Using that platform allowed us to focus on creating beautiful and exciting content, rather than spending all our money creating the infrastructure.
AUTHOR TO READER (and WRITER!)
We’ve launched a successful “live book” community where Year 4 and 5 schoolchildren contribute ideas to a book, as the author writes it week by week, which is then published in the traditional ways. Three books have been written so far, with hundreds of children’s ideas credited – plus 235,000 page views, 19,000 comments and over 4,600 hours spent on the site (visit duration of 11.5 minutes x 24,000 visits).
